Then in 2008, a friend told him the company was auditioning “supernumeraries,” or extras, and he leaped at the chance pointe shoe hardener. Once he landed his first gig, he was hooked. When Ballet San Jose, which long teetered on the brink of financial ruin, closed in March, that didn’t stop Hingle, who quickly snagged another volunteer position with the San Jose Dance Theatre. The dance academy  has performed “The Nutcracker” locally for more than 50 years. This year, two casts of about 75 professional dancers, students and volunteers will put on eight performances at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts..

Hingle’s wife Norma said the ballet has been good for him pointe shoe hardener. “I’m glad he found something that is completely opposite of what he does for a living,” Norma Hingle said. “He comes back calm and relaxed.”. At home, he works obsessively on perfecting his timing and technique in front of a large hallway mirror, and watches videos of “Nutcracker,” frame by frame. But he said it’s worth it. “If you want something to take you away from the stress of criminal law, ballet does it,’’ Hingle said. “The amount of absolute concentration it requires — you have to hit your mark exactly or you’ll hold someone else up — takes you completely away from everything else.’’..

Holiday romance, good-hearted rockers and geeks saving the world from (what else?) zombies highlight the list of cool stuff to do in the Bay Area. 1 “Daddy Long Legs”: This 2007 two-person romantic musical by John Caird and  Paul Gordon is adapted from a Jean Webster novel with a slightly Dickensian story line. It centers around an orphan girl who is sent to college by an anonymous benefactor who requires only that she write to him once a month with news of her new life pointe shoe hardener. The play has seen productions in London’s West End and  off-Broadway and gets its regional premiere starting Dec. 3 from TheatreWorks..

Details: Through Dec. 31; Lucie Stern Theatre, Palo Alto; $35-$80; 650-463-1960, 2 “She Loves Me”: If you like a dash of romantic tension in your holiday entertainment, consider this musical 1963 comedy by Joe Masteroff, Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick about two perfume shop clerks who bicker constantly at work while, unbeknownst to each other, they carry on a torrid pen-pal romance. It’s one of a long line of shows adapted from the 1930s play “Parfumerie” by Hungarian playwright Miklos Laszlo, including the films “The Shop Around the Corner” starring James Stewart and Margaret Sullivan, “In the Good Old Summertime” starring Van Johnson and Judy Garland and “You’ve Got Mail,” starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan pointe shoe hardener. SAN JOSE — Criminal defense attorney Michael E ermes dance shoes. Hingle, a tall, muscular man whose clients have included outlaw bikers and suspected drug dealers, likes to joke about his first role in a local ballet. The beanpole of a barrister made his debut in “The Toreador’’ — as a “horse’s ass.”. Eight years later, Hingle has now risen through the ranks of ballet extras to play a more dignified bit part — as “Mr. Posh,” one of the Christmas party guests in San Jose Dance Theatre’s current production of “The Nutcracker.’’ This time, the skinny lawyer gets to wear a tie and glide along the stage for about 26 minutes, instead of having to stoop over as he did in 2008 — with his face tucked under the costume of the dancer playing the horse’s front end and only his legs visible..

Since that first performance, the 56-year-old has regularly performed as an extra, including as a slave in “Romeo and Juliet.”. “The stage is like a courtroom to me, like a second womb,” he said, adding he’s only taken one ballet class — and that was just a few weeks ago. Highly ambitious, Hingle nonetheless aspires to performing more substantive roles someday — both on stage and in the courtroom. A controversial figure in the local legal world, Hingle used to represent the Hell’s Angels and was once charged with tipping off the target of a major drug investigation before he presented evidence he had done nothing wrong. Now, he said he plans to run for Superior Court judge in 2018 unless he’s appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown, which is a long shot ermes dance shoes. On the other hand, he has served as a substitute judge (pro tem) in traffic, small claims and civil court from time to time for the past 21 years..

Hingle is nearly as ambitious about ballet as he is about his professional career. “To be on the front line: priceless,” he said with a dreamy expression. The ballet is lucky to have Hingle as a volunteer, said Linda Hurkmans, San Jose Dance Theatre’s artistic director ermes dance shoes. Not only is he coordinated, but he’s highly reliable, she said. “He gives 100 percent each time,” she said, referring to the weekly rehearsals that started in September. “He knows where on the stage he needs to be and fits right in.”..

Hingle said it never occurred to him to take ballet when he was in high school. And even if he’d wanted to, he said he wouldn’t have had “the guts.”. His physical activity back then was highly restricted anyway, after he was accidentally shot in the right eye with a pellet gun at age 14 by a fellow Los Gatos High student. The only sport he was allowed to play while undergoing three surgeries was archery, he said. But once his eye healed and he shot up from 5-foot-3-inches to more than 6 feet tall, he began skiing competitively and skateboarding. In 1980, Hingle, who is part Cajun, took a job in Louisiana on an offshore oil rig ermes dance shoes.

Working his way up from galley hand to safety engineer, he became so muscular that he posed once in an underwear ad for a local department store, he said. Eventually, he put himself through college by working offshore every other week, and then attended law school at Tulane University. It wasn’t until he returned to San Jose in 1989 to practice law that Hingle began attending performances of Ballet San Jose, accompanied by the young daughter of his then-girlfriend. But after the couple split and he no longer had contact with the child, he stopped going because it made him too sad, he said ermes dance shoes.

ANOTHER ‘NUTCRACKER’ TWIST: Menlowe Ballet also has done something fun by blending two holiday classics, “The Nutcracker” and “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Choreographer and Artistic Director Michael Lowe has set “It’s a Wonderful Nutcracker” in a small American town in the 1940s, just like Bedford Falls in Frank Capra’s movie. “I felt that the movie’s tone and storyline could translate beautifully into a new kind of ‘Nutcracker’ that celebrated the best of both stories,” Lowe said freed studio professional pointe shoes.

The production is also a chance to see four dancers previously with Silicon Valley Ballet who are now company members at Menlowe: Junna Ige, Maykel Solas, Alex Kramer and Akira Takahashi. The show plays this Friday through Sunday and again next weekend at the Menlo-Atherton Performing Arts Center. He is a showman and oddity has paid off for him, as it did for Lady Gaga and Gorgeous George and Liberace. But the public demands new tricks. Today, railing at the journalists who slavishly cover him is, like bear baiting or lion taming, entertainment enough, but by next fall he will need to pull canaries out of his ears, and by 2018 he’ll be diving on horseback from a high tower into a pool of water while playing “Malaguena” on a trumpet. Meanwhile, the Democrats wander in the woods, walking into trees split sole ballet flats. A wealthy San Francisco liberal is re-elected as minority leader in the House, having flung millions into the wind and gotten skunked in 2014 and drubbed this fall, and a lackluster black Muslim congressman from Minneapolis is a leading candidate for chair of the Democratic National Committee, the person who will need to connect with disaffected workers in Youngstown and Pittsburgh. Why not a ballet dancer or a Buddhist monk?..

Meanwhile, the emperor-elect parades in the nude while his congressional courtiers admire him and the nation drifts toward the rapids. The one bright spot is the old draft-dodger’s new-found fondness for generals, including the one who talked him out of the idea of torturing prisoners of war. Military experience does encourage a certain respect for reality split sole ballet flats. There is hope that if the showman should decide late one night to incinerate Iran or North Korea and get it over with, someone might say, “Hold on. Let’s think this through.”..

It’s been Dalia Rawson‘s professional dream to choreograph a full-length ballet like “The Nutcracker.” But when she got the opportunity as director of the New Ballet School in San Jose, she decided to put a different spin on it — one that celebrates the valley’s rich history. “The San Jose Nutcracker” opens Dec. 16 at the Hammer Theatre Center. The music will be Tschaikovsky’s traditional ballet score, but what happens on stage should be unlike anything audiences have seen before. Rawson worked with History San Jose to research the looks for the show, and some costumes have been based on the clothes the early 1900s dolls were dressed in. The set design for the first act is based on San Jose’s 1905 skyline, and production design wizard Drew Clark has been busy creating a fantasy version of the Santa Clara Valley for the show split sole ballet flats.

“We are absolutely a San Jose-based organization, and it felt like that was something San Jose doesn’t have right now — it’s own ‘Nutcracker’ — something that celebrates what makes this area really special,” Rawson said. The Drosselmeyer character has been updated to Uncle Nikola (as in Tesla) for this production, and he brings electric gizmos for the children as gifts in the opening scene. San Jose’s iconic electric light tower plays a role, too, and there are plenty of agricultural cameos — including a Dancing Walnut — as Clara explores the Valley of Heart’s Delight split sole ballet flats. The Mother Ginger character has been re-imagined as Casa de Fruta, and the well-known roadside attraction on Highway 152 signed on as a sponsor, too..

The show will feature the New Ballet School’s 11 studio company dancers, who range in age from 17 to 22, playing the big parts. There also will be three guest artists in some key roles, who are former dancers with Silicon Valley Ballet split sole ballet flats. And there are, of course, parts for the students of the ballet school, which was hastily created when Silicon Valley Ballet and its school closed down in March. Rawson says that three performances — all of them a one-act version called “My Very First Nutcracker” — have already sold out and tickets are selling well for the full show, which has five performances Dec. 16-18 and Dec. 23-24. He promised the swamp would be drained. Was elected, said “Rain!” and it rained wearing pointe shoes. And the old crocodiles. Wore flesh-eating smiles. And the turtles were well entertained. It’s a wonderful satire right out of Twain or Thurber, a minority of the electorate goes for the loosest and least knowledgeable candidate, certain that he will lose and their votes will only be harmless protest, a middle finger to Washington, and then — Whoa. Thank you, Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania for this wonderful joke. He puts the Secret Service through their paces, highways are closed, planes diverted, cities disrupted, just so the man can say how much fun it was to defeat Hillary Clinton and confound the experts wearing pointe shoes. I stood in an airport last Thursday and watched live cable news coverage of his first stop in Indiana where he toured a factory whose owner had been promised a $7 million tax break in return for not laying off 800 workers. In November, 178,000 new jobs were created and unemployment fell, and here was a platoon of journalists in Indiana trailing a big galoot with a red tie who offered a corporation $7 million not to lose 800 workers. No gain, simply a non-loss..

It was a classic TV moment, extensive live coverage of essentially nothing whatsoever and we all stood in a stupor and watched, like people mesmerized by drops of rain sliding down a windowpane. Eighty-thousand Trump voters in three states gave us this man, which goes to show you how much damage a few people can do. It takes 12 million to provide health care, 3 million to run the public schools, but 19 men with box cutters can turn the country upside down and empower the paranoid right and create the pretense for wars that will cost billions and kill a million people and give us a permanent army of blue uniforms yelling at us to take off our shoes and put our laptops into plastic trays wearing pointe shoes.
